With the Summer Olympics starting this week in London, an estimated 10,500 athletes from 204 countries are gathering to compete in 302 events within 26 sports. Every single one of these competitors has worked tirelessly to bring home the gold for their country and earn the honor of becoming a globally recognized Olympic champion in their sport.

While having world class skills is an important asset for any champion, the drive to compete and edge out their competition is critically important as well. Whether it’s synchronized diving, the 100 meter hurdles or any of the other events, an Olympic athlete’s personal “win” is to be the champion.

The same effort and belief is happening right now across the analytics industry as Talent Analytics, Corp. and the International Institute for Analytics continue to bring together a large sample of Analytics Champions as part of an Analytics Professionals research study.

Just as the Olympics offer the opportunity for world class athletes to compare themselves to the rest of the world in their particular discipline, the study offers a unique opportunity for world class and aspiring analytics organizations to compare their champions to the broader industry.

Analytics Champion Events

Like their Olympic counterparts, Analytics Champions are supremely talented and compete regularly in the following events:

  • Analysis Design
  • Data Acquisition and Collection
  • Data Preparation
  • Data Analytics
  • Data Mining
  • Visualization
  • Programming
  • Interpretation
  • Administration

Wouldn’t it be great to know what traits were most effective in winning in the above analytics events?

Analytics Champion Technologies of Choice
Just as Olympic athletes leverage the best equipment and technologies to gain the crucial edge over their competition, Analytics champions do the same. Choice technologies include:

  • SAS, SPSS, Commercial Packages
  • R, Open Source Tools
  • Business Intelligence Systems (Cognos, Business Objects, Hyperion, Microstrategy)
  • Data Visualization Platforms (Spotfire, Tableau, JMP, etc.)
  • Python, Perl, Java, Programming Languages
  • Excel, Spreadsheets

Which technologies are used by your Analytics Champions?  Do you think a certain type of person  is better suited to optimize certain tools?

Calling All Analytics Champions – Compete Today
Just as the Olympics is designed to accommodate both individual and team sports, the Analytics Professionals study is for both teams of Analytics Champions or individual Analytics Champions.

If you or a colleague manage a team of Analytics Champions, have seen the business value of analytics delivered firsthand and want to contribute to the overall growth of the analytics industry, don’t sit on the sidelines – learn more about your current Champions and how they compare!

There are Two Ways to Get Involved:

If your organization already has more than 25 Analytics Champions:
Managers of Analytics Champions can complete the study here.

If your organization does not yet have 25 or more Analytics Champions but has Champion caliber aspirations: Individual Analytics Champions can complete the study here.

We are ecstatic about the response across the industry as this movement has taken off and look forward to hearing from even more Analytics Champions in the coming weeks!
