SEO is complicated and with the search engines constantly changing how they evaluate websites for ranking, it can feel like trying to chase a feather in the wind. Small business owners who do not have a lot of resources can find it overwhelming, which is why it is best to work with a reputable digital agency. In terms of Google’s search engine which is by far the most important, you need to understand how their local search works. It utilizes information in its Google My Business (GMB) database to make searches. So, understanding how GMB works will help you to create the highest-ranking pages.

We have previously talked about the benefits of using big data in SEO. However, we thought it might be better to talk more about using big data for local SEO, since the process is slightly different. Here is a list of the things you need to excel at Local SEO and rank high on a Google local search.

Make Sure Your Google My Business Listing is up to Date and Complete

Google’s search engine will look for the details of a business when ranking it on a search. in terms of local search, it will try and find a complete set of information about the company and its location. Businesses with complete and accurate information are easier to match in a local search.

Google My Business using complex data analytics technology. You need to understand the ranking signals that it uses, so you can optimize the profile accordingly.

Therefore, you should make sure that your GMB information is complete. If you have not fully completed this information or have not added any information at all oh, it makes it very difficult for the search engine to rank you locally. Google’s search engine wants to align those searching with the closest businesses to them first. So, they will have a bias towards those businesses that have filled in all of the relevant information on GMB.

So, take the time and make your profile complete. Put in a full description of your business including your company name, your website, business description, category of your business oh, and attributes. You should also put the date when you opened for business, and make sure to put photos of your business. All of these will help with local search.

The next step is to make sure that your location information is placed in GMB.  This information should include your full address and the areas that your business services. And it is very important that you do not use any abbreviations on any part of your company’s address. Spell out the words street, lane, and do not use any other abbreviations.

Further, you should add your business hours for every day of the week, and if you have different hours on weekends, you should write this in as well. And don’t forget to include which holidays are closed and which ones are open. Also, if you have different hours during these holidays, include this information as well.

Make Sure There is No Conflicting Information Anywhere on the Web

Google uses complex data mining tools to find information as part of its ranking strategy. You need to use it accordingly.

An important note is to make sure that the information you have entered is the same information about your business that appears anywhere on the web. making sure that your information is consistent will eliminate any confusion about details of your business. If there are two businesses with the same name but different addresses, this will confuse the search engine and cause you to lose potential customers. In fact this is the leading cause of companies having a low local search ranking.

Verify Your Locations

You must verify your business before Google will place your listing on Maps and Search. To set this up go to https://www.google.com/business and fill in the information needed for verification.

Respond to Online Reviews

Online reviews are very important in terms of search rankings and companies that respond to reviews get ranked higher in local SEO. Responding to review also has the dual effect of getting customers to trust you which gets you more customers.

Always Add High Quality Pictures to Your Web Pages

High quality pictures are a key part of local SEO ranking. They show that the company wants to give potential customers a visual image of their company, products, services and what it is like to work with them.

Google reports that listings with photos receive 42% more requests for driving directions and 35% more clicks to their websites. So, include a profile photo. a logo, and a cover photo to your web pages for increased local SEO rankings.

Big Data is Critical to Local Marketing and SEO

SEO is evolving tremendously in 2020. You need to make sure that you are going to use big data effectively if you are trying to get your site ranking for local search terms.
