Its index is not as large as Google’s and its servers aren’t as fast, but GUSfinder is a new search engine that offers you three unique aspects that you should seriously consider.
Lebanese software developer Ghassan Chahine created the company, according to his LinkedIn profile. He’s also the webmaster for Nahar Ash Shabab, a supplement to the An-Nahar newspaper.
Ghassan tweets as @ghassanc and maintains the company Twitter feed at the aptly-named @GUSfinder. I also see 245 people (so far) who have opted to be fans of the company’s Facebook page.
First, GUSfinder is a metasearch engine, hearkening me back 15 years when MetaCrawler and Mamma.com were the queens of the crop. While Google, Yahoo, Bing, MSN, and other engines only show you search results that match content in their own indexes, metasearch engines are known for searching multiple engines at once and showing you the best of the best.
Searching on a variety of phrases and keywords, the site is a little slow but it’s very accurate.
Second, GUSfinder fosters social change. From its about page, you can read that the company searches the web for worthy charities and donates 30% of its advertising revenue to global causes to fight global warming, save water and trees, reduce poverty and violence against women, etc.
Third, and perhaps more importantly, GUSfinder is green. It’s an eco-friendly, energy efficient, and carbon neutral search engine, with data servers powered by renewable energy. Moreover, the website itself is certified green by co2stats.com.

There’s not much on the web — via Google or GUSfinder — about the new search engine, but I imagine things will spruce up in the coming days and weeks as word spreads online.
