If you are a Gmail user, you might have already noticed how Google suggests you ‘predictive texts’ based on where your sentences are likely to end. You might have received a lengthy email from your coworker, and you could simply press on the ‘Got it’ response suggested by Google’s AI algorithm to compose your reply.

In effect, these are intended to save you the effort and time you would spend on coming up with responses that balance between professionalism, courtesy, and even the human factor.

You might be under the impression that no one else can understand your intentions through words better than yourself. However, this ever-evolving machine learning technology might surprise you in this regard.

The truth is that machine learning is now capable of writing amazing content. This can be a huge turning point of many industries.

Can AI replace humans in coming up with better creative content? Let us take a look at a few cases that will offer us more insight.

Machine Learning to Write your College Essays

Earlier in 2019, the AI development company OpenAI developed a text-writing algorithm named GPT-2 that could use machine learning to generate content. It wasn’t long before a college student decided to try the tech’s features out on his academic assignments. It is a great example of the power of AI in writing content.

GPT-2 has not been able to replace the prowess of an experienced essay writer from a reputed essay writing service EssayHub to get top-grades on papers. But the student in question was still able to create multiple articles for his master’s degree in business using the software.

All he did was to create the outline and one sentence per paragraph. The AI did the rest to come up with an essay that resonated with his thesis. The student managed to secure an average grade using the GPT-2 essays. But all things considered, this is just one case of how AI could be used in many ways – like finding loopholes in our existing system.

Tomorrow Sleep Achieved 10,000% Increase in Web Traffic

Tomorrow Sleep was launched in 2017 as a sleep system startup and ventured on to create online content in 2018. After months of rolling out excellent content and doing the analysis, they were able to get 4,000 visitors per month to visit their site.

The numbers were clearly average. Even when they were following the right set of rules, they were not able to accomplish what they were hoping for.

With the help of MarketMuse’s AI-powered content intelligence, they were able to shift their strategy. The tool helped them find more targeted topics that offer the best value to their readers. This allowed them to fill the gaps in their content writing plan.

Not long after, machine learning helped them build content strategies by providing SEO recommendations and other insights.

Using Machine Learning to Improve your Writing

IEEE reported that an AI bot was able to create poetry that sounded like Shakespeare writing. On close inspection, it seemed nonsensical. However, it still had remarkable prose, which shows the great potential of AI writing capabilities.

However, AI can be even more beneficial when it comes to helping you perfect your own writing, as a report from the Brooking Institute showed. Editing and proofreading are the most integral parts of content writing. There are several products available online today that can take care of it for you. One excellent example is Grammarly, which relies on AI and machine learning to enhance your writing.

For those who are unaware, when you upload your document to Grammarly, it will process the writing and point out any grammatical and style errors. You could also integrate it with your browser, and the tool will point out the mistakes in real-time.

In order to achieve this, Grammarly’s technology combines machine learning with natural language processing approaches. This is a branch of AI that is used to emulate the human sense of language and can even be used in translating an old scripture of Akkadian cuneiform, or, in this case – writing enhancement.

Over the years, Grammarly has become one of the most helpful websites for students and content writers alike. As you know now, machine learning has played a crucial role in that.

eBay Used Machine Learning to Come up with Email Subject Lines

You can easily guess the number of emails a large-scale business such as eBay sends out every day. With personalization playing a significant role these days, they cannot afford to use a single subject-line for every email.

The goal was to make each customer feel valued. Whether your customers are interested in craft items for their business ideas in lockdown or a desk to set up their home office, an enticing email subject line would encourage them to find out more about the eBay deals. However, using copywriters for this mundane task would be a waste of their time and resources.

eBay then decided to employ Phrasee – an AI-powered copywriting tool that uses natural language generation and deep learning. The tool was able to learn the brand’s voice and incorporate it to create email subject lines, push notifications, and even Facebook ads. The new writing outputs were also A/B tested by millions of eBay customers in a matter of minutes.

Final Words

Machine learning technology is rapidly evolving – and its applications in content writing and creation are already exceeding expectations. Whether it can replace the human element on a massive scale is a question that still lacks a clear answer. That said, these case studies point out that the era of machine learning has begun. We will have to wait and see what the future has in store for us – will machine learning and AI change the world as we know it?
