Sentiment Analysis Symposium West – Free Pass Contest

Sentiment Analysis Symposium West – Free Pass Contest

First I wanted to thank all those who responded to our call for speakers for the Sentiment Analysis Symposium to be held November 9 in San Francisco . We have finished reviewing the submissions and full agenda as well as the pre-event sessions have now been posted to the site.

In the mean time, as the response to Anderson Analytics’ (OdinText) Text Analytics Summit pass giveaway contest was well received I’d like to do the same for the Sentiment Analysis Symposium which is also on the West Coast and immediately precedes the Text Analytics Summit.

Those interested please submit your answers to the questions at the bottom of this post. I won’t post any of the answers untill I close the contest next week. The person who answers most correct answers first will win the pass.

For those of you not familiar with the Sentiment Analysis Symposium, it’s been THE event for those of us struggling with one of the central problems in text analytics, how to best determine positive, negative as well as other emotions within unstructured data.

This year speakers from Zynga, TripAdvisor, HP, Amazon, and the Red Cross will be featured. The conference will highlight critical business needs related to customer experience, marketing, and social-media analytics as well as technologies and trends.

John Kelley of TripAdvisor will speak about use of sentiment and opinion to improve the hotel-selection process. Banajsheh Ghassemi of the American Red Cross and Chris Jones of Zynga will discuss the role customer and market sentiment plays in marketing and customer relationship initiatives. Sharon Chiarella, VP for Amazon Mechanical Turk, will address crowd-sourced sentiment analysis.

The event is great for executives, strategists, business analysts, and staff working in marketing, finance, social media, customer service and support, quality, and online commerce. Those new to sentiment analysis may also want to register and attend the optional half-day Practical Sentiment Analysis tutorial taught by Stanford University Professor Christopher Potts, which precedes the symposium, on November 8, 2011. I attended the workshop last year in New York and can say it was definitely worthwhile.

OK, without further ado, the questions…

Q1. What do you find interesting about sentiment analysis? (no right or wrong answer)

Q2. Give at least two definitions for the acronym NLP (does not have to be text analytics related)

Q3. Which blog post with the words “text analytics” in the title on this blog do you think has gotten the most views?

Q4. How many views do you think that is? (closest answer wins)

Note the pass is transferable to a client or colleague.

Good Luck!
