The Google Summer of Code is a global program, funded by Google, that provides funding for students to write code for various open-source software projects including R. In 2008, four projects were selected for funding and resulted in improvements to R’s documentation system and PostgreSQL integration.For the 2009 Summer of Code, the R Foundation is looking for potential mentors and ideas for student projects. Manuel Eugster is collecting submissions for the R Foundation, and a number of interesting ideas have already been submitted. Submissions are due by March 10 as described in Manuel’s post to r-devel.
