Although I normally don’t ask for participation in my blog postings, one of the purposes of social media is to initiate conversations.  Since this past week was my B-eye Network Expert Channel launch of BI for the Mid-Market, I thought it would be a good impetus to get a conversation started.  In addition to mid-market research (such as my recent BI for Mid-Market survey: Download midmarket_bi.pdf ), some articles, and vendor marketing, little exists that is driven by small and mid-sized organizations themselves.

Obviously, by conducting research, speaking to current BI users within these organizations, getting insights into what customers want from vendors offering targeted mid-market solutions, etc. it is possible to get an overall understanding of adoption patterns, gaps, awareness and the like in relation to BI within mid-market companies.  What is missing is what these organizations want to learn about, where they feel gaps exist in terms of education.

So please feel free to let me know what you think – what areas do you feel are lacking when it comes to breaking down solutions targeted to mid-market customers? What would you like to know more about? Based on some of the BI for Mid-Market survey results it seems as if vendors such as Business Objects and Microsoft are doing a great job of marketing their solutions to mid-market organizations, but many others don’t seem to have the same awareness levels. Do you think it’s important to know more about all available options or is knowing about leading vendor offerings enough?
