Big data has started to change the world in a lot of ways. Human beings are creating 2.5 quintillion bytes of data every single day.

Contents
  • Growing need for new hardware
  • Privacy concerns and regulations are becoming a core focus
  • Machine learning is becoming fundamental to modern website applications
    • Big Data is Changing the Direction of the Internet Forever

As scalability with big data accelerates, consumers and organizations around the world are starting to witness its impact. Every aspect of our lives has been shaped by big data to some degree. The Internet is one of the most significant facets of our lives to be touched by data analytics, machine learning and other forms of new data technology.

How is big data changing the Internet? What should consumers and commercial enterprises expect from big data on the Internet in the future? Some of the biggest changes are highlighted below.

Growing need for new hardware

When people talk about the role of big data on the Internet, they usually think of the more abstract impacts. Although the influence big data has had on software and other facets of the Internet are evident, they are still difficult to conceptualize for many people.

However, advances in big data have also changed Internet hardware technology needs. As we stated in the past, big data strategies require a great Internet connection. This wouldn’t be possible without the right cables and other infrastructural requirements. Consumers need more powerful routers and cables to transmit the data needed to use websites that are dependent on big data technology.

Some cable manufacturers like Cox Internet are constantly improving their products to meet evolving big data needs. They can download up to one gigabyte per second in certain cities. They can also transmit up to 300 MB per second, which is excellent for streaming videos or playing modern video games.

For some Internet users, this type of hardware may seem like a luxury. However, it is going to be a lot more critical as data scalability continues to take off.

Privacy concerns and regulations are becoming a core focus

Many people have benefited from the emergence of Big data. Websites use data to improve their marketing strategies, enhance the user experience and deliver more value to their users. However, these data driven strategies require them to collect as much data on their customers as possible.

Although many customers are appreciative of the benefits of big data, they are concerned about the trade-offs. A Gallup poll conducted back in 2010 found that most Internet users were willing to pay for online privacy. More recent polls have shown that support for greater online privacy protections is a bipartisan concern.

These concerns have driven regulators to take action. Europe enacted the Global Data Protection Requirement in 2017 to address consumer privacy concerns. The state of California enacted the California Consumer Privacy Act, which is slowly being rolled out. Other states and possibly the federal government are likely to create similar privacy regulations.

Machine learning is becoming fundamental to modern website applications

Companies around the world are investing a lot more in machine learning technology. They have discovered that their Internet commerce models are particularly dependent on advances in machine learning.

There are a number of benefits of machine learning with websites. These benefits include the following:

  • Improving Internet security by using new threat scoring models that are dependent on predictive analytics.
  • Getting a better understanding of individual consumers and personalizing content to meet their expectations.
  • Identifying peak periods for traffic and funneling some traffic to different servers to avoid network crashes and lower downtime.

Machine learning is heavily predicated on big data technology. As new advances in data technology are rolled out, companies should be able to accomplish more wondrous things with their Internet capabilities.

Big Data is Changing the Direction of the Internet Forever

There are a lot of promising changes as a result of new data technology. The Internet will continue to evolve as new advances in data analytics, machine learning and similar technology are unveiled. Companies and consumers all over the world should benefit as a result.
